MAIRI BARTON


Mairi Barton is the founder and Chief Executive of Pinch Yourself Communication®. Mairi has delivered and influenced significant outcomes over a career spanning more than 25 years in strategic communication, media and stakeholder engagement serving at the highest levels in the Australian government, corporate and non-profit sectors.

A multi-award winning strategic communicator and former journalist, Mairi has an outstanding record of identifying and solving business problems and delivering value for clients.

As the executive in charge of corporate and industry affairs function for Airservices Australia, one of the three largest air traffic management providers globally, Mairi was responsible for government and international relations, airport and airline (customer) relations, media relations, internal communication and community relations.

She held a series of global executive roles with one of Australia’s big four banks, ANZ Banking Group, a top five ASX-listed company. This included leading the group communication function, running communication across Asia Pacific, Europe and America and acting head of corporate affairs for New Zealand.

Mairi has also held senior advisory roles in corporate affairs with Australian and State Government, and the peak national body representing Australian farmers, the National Farmers’ Federation.

Starting her career as a newspaper journalist, Mairi won a number of major journalism awards and served in the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery in Canberra. She is a published historian.

Mairi is a globally certified Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP), is International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) trained in community and stakeholder engagement, and is a sustaining member of the International Association of Business Communication.
